Assam Growth Engine of 21st Century India: PM Modi lays foundation stone for development projects worth Rs 11,000 crores for Assam’s infrastructure development

Assam Growth Engine of 21st Century India : The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi on 4th February 2024 inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 11,000 crores in Guwahati, Assam. The main focus areas here in Guwahati include projects to boost connectivity, sports & medical infrastructure.

Earlier in 2021 PM Modi said the India’s growth engine would be further boosted with development of Assam and the North Eastern states. For this, the Centre and Assam government are working together for the all-round development of the State and maximum welfare of the people of this region.

In pursuance of this commitment Prime Minister Narendra Modi lays foundation stone for the following projects in Assam-

  • Maa Kamakhya Divya Lok Pariyojana
  • Multiple road upgradation projects worth over Rs 3400 crores
  • Projects to boost the sports and medical infrastructure

Fulfilling the commitment to enhance facilities for visitors to pilgrimage sites remains a top priority for the Prime Minister. In a continued effort towards this goal, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a significant project known as Maa Kamakhya Divya Pariyojana (Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor). This project, sanctioned under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE) scheme, aims to offer world-class amenities to pilgrims who visit the Kamakhya temple.

 

Multiple road upgradation projects worth over Rs 3400 crores

The Prime Minister inaugurated several road upgradation projects with a total value exceeding Rs. 3400 crore, marking the commencement of the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Corridor Connectivity initiative. This comprehensive effort includes the enhancement of 43 roads and the construction of 38 bridges. Additionally, the Prime Minister officially opened two 4-laning projects, namely the Dolabari to Jamuguri and Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur routes. These initiatives are expected to enhance connectivity to Itanagar and contribute significantly to the overall economic development of the region.

 

Projects to boost the sports and medical infrastructure

In a bid to tap into the immense sports potential of the region, the Prime Minister initiated projects aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure in the state. These projects encompass the construction of an international standard sports stadium in Chandrapur and the refurbishment of Nehru Stadium to meet FIFA standards as a football stadium.

To make Assam Growth Engine of 21st Century India, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for the development of infrastructure of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Further, the foundation stone for the development of a medical college at Karimganj district of Assam was also laid by him.

 

Underlining the significance of Indian pilgrimage sites and temples, the Prime Minister stressed that these locations represent an enduring testament to our civilization spanning thousands of years, illustrating how Bharat has withstood every challenge it has encountered.

PM Modi highlighted that Ayodhya has welcomed over 24 lakh people in the past 12 days following the Pran Pratishtha of the Ram Temple. He affirmed that a similar scenario will unfold with the completion of Maa Kamkhya Divya Lok Pariyojana.

Whether it’s a rickshaw puller, taxi driver, hotel owner, or street vendor, the Prime Minister observed that the livelihood of even the most economically disadvantaged receives a boost with the influx of pilgrims and devotees. He informed about the government’s emphasis on tourism in this year’s budget.

The Prime Minister mentioned that the current development projects will enhance Assam’s connectivity with the North Eastern states and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia. Simultaneously, they will contribute to employment growth in the tourism sector and create new opportunities for sporting talents in the state. Additionally, he highlighted an expansion in the medical education and healthcare sector in the state due to the development projects announced today.

Prime Minister Modi extended congratulations to the people of Assam and the North Eastern region for the day’s development projects. He expressed gratitude to the citizens of Guwahati for the warm reception during his arrival on the evening of February 3, 2024.

Reaffirming the massive role to be played by Assam and the North East Region (Assam Growth Engine of 21st Century India) , PM Modi concluded his speech in Guwahati, “The goal is to make India the third largest economy in the world. The goal is Viksit Bharat 2047”.
